Twenty-one Ursuline Academy juniors pledged to uphold the
values of scholarship, service, leadership and character at their induction
into the National Honor Society last Tuesday, March 27.
These values are the Four Pillars of the National Honor
Society in schools across the nation, including the Angeline chapter of the society here at Ursuline Academy. The
induction ceremony opened with a prayer from Mrs. Ferrucci, Director of
Guidance and moderator of the group.
Mrs. Ferrucci read from the Gospel of Matthew, and encouraged the
inductees to let their light shine for the world.
Each inductee received a certificate, white rose and National
Honor Society pin, pinned onto their UA blazer by a faculty member. Then they signed their names into the
official register of the Angeline chapter, signed by all former NHS members
from Ursuline Academy.
“I’ve looked up to all the NHS girls and have always wanted
to be in it,” said Stephanie, one of the inductees. “Now it is nice to be able to return the
favor and be someone for the younger students to look up to.”
The new inductees wasted no time in putting the value of
service into action, hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for the Italian Home for
Children on Saturday, March 31. More
than thirty children, ranging in age from four to fourteen, joined the NHS
girls for a morning of arts and crafts and egg hunting.
“I am so proud of the twenty-one juniors who were
inducted into the Angeline Chapter of the National Honor Society,” Mrs.
Ferrucci said. “I look forward to
working with them on service opportunities both in and out of our school
community.”
