UA Travel Diaries: April Vacation Trips to Europe & Delaware!

UA girls traveled far and wide over April vacation this year!

A group of 28 students went on a European adventure to Paris, France and Madrid, Spain! Mrs. Whiting, Mrs. Keaney, Dr. Radwan, Sra. Sivan and Mrs. Benjamin joined them on the journey. They spent eight days seeing all that Paris and Madrid have to offer, from the Eiffel Tower and the Cathedral de Notre Dame in Paris to the Plaza de Espana and the Palacio Real in Madrid!

The UA Lacrosse team went on an adventure of their own over the April vacation.  They traveled to Ursuline Academy in Wilmington, DE to participate in the 6th Annual Ursuline Sister Schools Lacrosse Tournament!  Teams from Ursuline schools in Wilmington, New Rochelle and St. Louis also participated in the three-day event from April 19-21.  All the teams received a warm welcome from their Ursuline sisters at UA Wilmington on Thursday afternoon, and then they spent the day in school with their new friends on Friday!  The games got underway on Friday afternoon after school, and then continued on Saturday.  The tournament ended on Saturday evening with a closing Mass, dinner and gift exchange.  Though the UA girls were sad to part with their new friends, they left with keepsakes from each of the sister Ursuline schools to remember them by!

Grandparents Day at UA!

It was a full house at Ursuline Academy's Grandparents Day on April 11! Over 215 grandparents joined us for the celebration, the most ever in attendance in the history of this event.

The day began with a special liturgy prepared by the 7th graders. Each student played a role in the mass, from acting out the First Reading to serving as lectors and gift bearers. The Liturgical Dance group performed to "You Raise Me Up" by Josh Groban during the Communion meditation, and dedicated their moving performance to the grandparents. Following Mass, the grandparents went to lunch in the Tea Room and attended a class with their granddaughter (or granddaughters!).

Grandparents Day is a much-loved tradition here at Ursuline Academy, and a wonderful opportunity for our students to share their UA experience with some of the most important people in their lives. Thank you to all the grandparents for visiting with us for the day!  And a huge thank you to the wonderful volunteers and the faculty and staff at UA for all that they do to make this day possible.  We couldn't do it without your help!

An Easter Message from President Whiting

“This is the day the Lord has made; let us be glad and rejoice in it!’
(Psalm 118:24)

During this Easter Season we rejoice in the Resurrection together as the Ursuline Academy family.  Let us give thanks for all the blessings that God has bestowed upon us on Easter and always.

With the joy of Easter comes spring and new beginnings: the Class of 2012 is preparing for graduation as we welcome our accepted students for the next school year.  May we carry the hope and joy of the Resurrection with us into each of our new endeavors.

I wish you and your family a joyous Easter Season!

Twenty-One Juniors Inducted into the Angeline Chapter of the National Honor Society

Twenty-one Ursuline Academy juniors pledged to uphold the values of scholarship, service, leadership and character at their induction into the National Honor Society last Tuesday, March 27.

These values are the Four Pillars of the National Honor Society in schools across the nation, including the Angeline chapter of the society here at Ursuline Academy.  The induction ceremony opened with a prayer from Mrs. Ferrucci, Director of Guidance and moderator of the group.  Mrs. Ferrucci read from the Gospel of Matthew, and encouraged the inductees to let their light shine for the world.

Each inductee received a certificate, white rose and National Honor Society pin, pinned onto their UA blazer by a faculty member.  Then they signed their names into the official register of the Angeline chapter, signed by all former NHS members from Ursuline Academy.

“I’ve looked up to all the NHS girls and have always wanted to be in it,” said Stephanie, one of the inductees.  “Now it is nice to be able to return the favor and be someone for the younger students to look up to.”

The new inductees wasted no time in putting the value of service into action, hosting an Easter Egg Hunt for the Italian Home for Children on Saturday, March 31.  More than thirty children, ranging in age from four to fourteen, joined the NHS girls for a morning of arts and crafts and egg hunting.

“I am so proud of the twenty-one juniors who were inducted into the Angeline Chapter of the National Honor Society,” Mrs. Ferrucci said.  “I look forward to working with them on service opportunities both in and out of our school community.”
