Thank You from President Whiting

Ursuline Community,

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my deepest gratitude to our faculty, staff, students and parents for their outpouring of support to the Manning family and the entire Ursuline community this past week. The pride that I feel for the school and its very special community simply cannot be expressed in words. When we speak of Ursuline Academy to families who are seeking a school for their daughter, we often refer to it as a very “special place.” I have often wondered how prospective families have interpreted that phrase. We know that no matter how well we describe the school, it is the students who embody the spirit of all that we do! This past week, Ursuline Academy grew in its “specialness” and rallied together to be a community…a family whose collective strength was felt by all! I am honored to be surrounded by such a loving and compassionate community.

After a weekend where we stopped to pay tribute to our loved ones, let us also offer prayers of gratitude for one another! Individually, we are human beings with strengths and weaknesses. Collectively, we are one very strong community!

With deepest gratitude,

Rosann M. Whiting, President

Festival of the Arts

Last Wednesday, the many and varied artistic talents in the Ursuline Academy community were on display at the Festival of the Arts! We celebrated the wonderful artists, musicians, singers and dancers at UA.

The 31 Senior Studio Art students displayed their impressive final projects, a translation of a masterpiece seen at the Museum of Fine Arts onto a piece of furniture. The exhibit also included pieces that they have been working on for the entire school year: watercolor paintings of the Ursuline campus, paper mache fish, still-life paintings and charcoal drawings.

The Ursuline Academy Choral Group, Glee Club and Chamber Ensemble performed pieces that they have been working on throughout the school year. Enjoy these highlights from their concert!

The Choral Group performing "Were You There."

The Chamber Ensemble performing selections from the Harry Potter films.

The Glee Club performing "Thank You For the Music."

Our Liturgical Dancer Group also performed a beautiful dance to “You Raise Me Up” by Josh Groban. Senior and moderator, Megan, performed a special ballet solo set to “Hernando’s Hideaway” and wowed the audience with her skills in her toe shoes!

Congratulations to all our performers! And a special thank you to the moderators for all your hard work with the students this year! Thank you to Mrs. Glancy, Mrs. Cleary, Mr. Grohmann, Mrs. Rufo, Megan ’12 and Mrs. Keaney. To see more photos from the event, go to the slideshow on UrsulineAcademy.net!

Thank you!

Dear Ursuline Community,

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to all of the junior parents for everything they did to make the Senior Parent Brunch a success! We had a wonderful morning honoring the Class of 2012 and their parents.

A special thank you to Sue Lawler and Molly Wolfe, the co-chairs of the Senior Parent Brunch Committee, and their dedicated committee members. I would also like to thank Millie Borodic for creating our stunning floral centerpieces. Each of them spent countless hours preparing for this event! Those who were able to serve on Sunday morning provided us with a delicious meal prepared with love and served with pride!

We strive to build a community here at Ursuline Academy, a community of people who believe in our mission and who partner with us as we carry forward the work of the Ursuline Sisters. It was beautiful to see how that community came together to celebrate the Class of 2012 and their parents at yesterday’s brunch! Events like this one make us proud to be part of the Ursuline family.

Thank you to each of our parents for all that you do to make Ursuline Academy such a warm and supportive community! We are so grateful to share this time in your daughters’ lives with you.

Gratefully,

Rosann M. Whiting, President
